Starting Out

Okay, I've been doing alot of research into the development of computer games. Computer games aren't thrown together in one simple easy to use program. They are different key elements that are used in the process of game creation. You have the programmers, the 3D artists, the developers, and so on. (I never said this was going to be easy) Anyway, I've decided to start out by learning how to program.

Programming itself isn't easy, you literally have to learn a new language in order to tell the computer what you want it to do. Now, there are many different programs that are used to program (ironic isn't it?) And each program that is out there has its own language. Now we have to choose what program we want to use. Microsoft sells Visual Basic, C++, and Visual C#. NET. Other programs that are out there are: Java SDK, DirectX, Euphoria, and many, many others. So what I'll be doing in the next couple of days is researching these different programs and choosing the best one for me. All of the Microsoft programs are already out of the question because the prices to purchase their product is sky high. So either late today or tomorrow I'll post my choice of program. I recommend you research these products for yourself just so you can see what I'm talking about. Below I have two links, one is a wikipedia page about computer programming, the other is about game programming. Peruse these two pages to get yourself aquainted with what programming is and whatnot.

Resource found

Okay late last night while looking around the vastness that is google, I came upon this site that not only offered advice on how to get started, but also gave links to other sites that may prove useful in days to come. The main advice was to start out by learning the game making process, and to develop a simple game before going full-out for a huge super game. (I had one of those DUH! moments there) Anyway, I'll put a link up of the site where I read all this at.

Also, if for some reason the website where he wrote this at decides to no longer function, or he deletes what he wrote, I have saved a file of it on my computer in a MS doc. Just email me for it at: rmh4097@gmail.com

Other Random News

I would also like to add that I will be posting random little excerpts about me and what I did that day. These excerpts will have absolutely nothing to do with my main project. The title will always have the word random in it, so if you decide my life is boring then you can just skip over that. :D

The Idea, The Project, The Plan

Hello, and thanks for viewing my page. My Idea is to create a fully functional Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMO-RPG). The idea for me to do this came from playing RPGs and thinking about how certain things could be different or done better. I used to play Runescape when I was younger and after a while I couldn't stand how poor the graphics were and also its lack of a story line, so I went on a quest (in real life of coarse). I went out trying to find a free, skill-based, rpg, that had a good storyline, good graphics, and a large user community. I found Anarchy Online.

Anarchy had everything I was looking for, and then some. I enjoy the class system, even though its very basic, and its rich storyline, but eventually I found it lacked something, and at first I couldn't figure out what if was. Then I realized what it lacked true freedom. Anarchy is so combat based, and has very little focus on things like making armor and other items. I realized soon after that, that no game what going to fully give what I was looking for, so now I'm setting out to create my own.

I would like to state now that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing! I don't have any experience with game design, programming, graphic design, nothing. My plan is to teach myself as much as possible for as little money as possible. (No I'm not being cheap, I just don't have money to go out and take courses at a college or anything.) I've already begun googling things already, and what I plan to do is to provide links to material and software so that if there is anybody else out there who wishes to do the same they can have some basis for what to do from what I accomplish.
